Volkswagen has pulled the drapes off its all-new 2022 Volkswagen Lamando L five-door hatch it will sell in China only for now, but which is tipped to preview the styling of upcoming VW models in Europe and Australia.
Created in partnership with Volkswagen's Chinese partner SAIC, the Lamando L measures in at 4784mm long, 1831mm wide and stands 1469mm tall. That makes it 500mm longer, 42mm wider and 13mm taller than the Mk8 Volkswagen Golf.
Borrowing styling cues from the Volkswagen Arteon, the Lamando gets a clamshell bonnet, frameless doors and coupe-style lines.

The LED matrix headlights and huge lower air intake, meanwhile, look inspired by the car-maker's latest pure-electric ID models.
At the rear, there's yet more inspiration from vehicles like the Volkswagen ID.5.
Inside, there's a minimalist approach to cabin design with the interior dominated by a large 12.0-inch infotainment system that's flanked by a 10.0-inch digital instrument cluster.

Based on the Volkswagen Group's MQB Evo platform, it's thought plug-in hybrids, full-electric powertrains and traditional combustion engines will be offered in the Lamando L.
It will launch with the car-maker's 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that channels 110kW and 250Nm of torque to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
On sale in China in the coming months, it's unlikely the Lamando L, which joins the more conventionally-styled Lamando sedan, will be exported to other markets in the short-term.
