Renault upsizes Latitude V6

Bigger engine, smaller price for Renault's slow-selling Latitude flagship sedan
Renault Australia has upsized the engine and downsized the price of its flagship Latitude sedan.
Previously priced from $39,990 in both 2.5-litre petrol and the 2.0-litre diesel forms, the Latitude is now available from $36,990 plus on-road costs with the same diesel engine and from $37,990 plus ORCs with a larger 3.5-litre V6.
The top-shelf Latitude 2.0 Luxe remains unchanged at $42,490 plus ORCs, and the bigger-bore petrol engine carries the same $1000 price premium in Luxe specification.
Renault Australia says the introduction of the larger 3.5-litre petrol engine is in response to customer demand rather than slow sales.
Indeed, when it replaced the unloved Laguna here in April 2011, the French brand publicly forecast sales of just 200 annual sales, with diesels accounting for about 40 per cent, and to November last year the Latitude attracted 308 buyers.
Like all versions of the Latitude, which is produced in South Korea and based on sister brand Nissan’s Maxima, the 3.5-litre petrol V6 is matched exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission.
Driving the Latitude’s front wheels, it produces 174kW/330Nm (up from 133kW/235Nm) and returns combined fuel consumption of 10.5L/100km – up from 9.7L/100km for the 2.5 and 6.5L/100km for the diesel.
The Euro 4 emissions-compliant engine runs on 91 RON standard unleaded petrol, while top speed is listed at 234km/h (215km/h for the diesel) and 0-100km/h acceleration at 8.4 seconds (9.9 seconds for the diesel).
Standard equipment remains unchanged from the 2.5 and 2.0, and therefore includes six airbags, electronic stability/traction control, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, emergency brake assist, automatic hazard light activation, five three-point seatbelts with pre-tensioners and load-limiters, and cruise control with speed limiter.
Also standard across the range is leather trim, satellite-navigation, Bluetooth phone connectivity with audio streaming, front and rear parking sensors, automatic wipers and headlights, fog lights, dual-zone climate-control, heated front seats, power driver’s seat adjustment, rear/side window blinds, an automatic parking brake and 17-inch wheels including a full-size spare.
In addition, Latitude Luxe buyers continue to receive a reversing camera, premium Bose sound system, electric front passenger seat height adjustment, driver’s seat massage function, three-zone climate-control, tyre-pressure monitoring, an electro-chromatic rear-view mirror, panoramic glass sunroof and bootlid spoiler.
